MOSQUÉE AL NOOR
This Ottoman-style mosque, built between 2003 and 2005, can accommodate up to 1,800 worshippers and is open to non-Muslims
Named after the wife of the ruler of Sharjah, this superb mosque, commissioned by Sheikha Noor, was built between 2003 and 2005 and uses all the codes of the Ottoman style. The uncanny resemblance to the Blue Mosque in Istanbul is deliberate and continues inside to the heart of the Mirab, where the same Koranic verses can be found. With a capacity of up to 1,800 worshippers, it is open to non-Muslims twice a week for guided tours that always conclude with a time for questions and answers.
