FORT AL-HISN
Today, the fort houses a museum that traces Sharjah's history through fascinating old photos and other treasures
An avenue of apartment buildings forms a perspective to the Corniche. In the middle of the perspective, the Sharjah Fort stands in the shadow of modern buildings. The fort was the residence of the ruling family, the Al-Qassimi, and the seat of government. Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr al-Qassimi, known as "the first", built it in 1823. Today it houses a museum that traces the history of Sharjah. There are fascinating old photographs and many other treasures. You can also visit the personal room of the sheik and the fort's prisons.
