FORT HAYL
The fort boasts a majestic square tower that bears witness to its past grandeur and offers a strikingly bare landscape.
The fort of Al-Hayl, once called the fortress of the mountain, has a majestic square tower, testifying to its past grandeur. On foundations that were probably Portuguese, a fortified complex dated 1930 housed the headquarters of the Governor of Fujairah to protect access to the wadi from rival tribes. A few restored houses and a majilis complete the ensemble. The landscape is strikingly bare, and the lucky ones may come across some petroglyphs. Further on, protected by barbed wire, we can see thousand-year-old archaeological remains.
