In this valley of Wadi Ham, the site of Al Bithnah was built in 1735, following a battle between opposing tribes for control of the wadi, the fort commanded the passage of this strategic route through the Hajjar massif. It played a historic role in 1884 when Sheikh Hammad al Sharqi took control of the fort, which played a key role in the cause of Fujairah's independence and refused Sharjah's suzerainty in 1901. Not far away, archaeologists from Geneva have discovered an astonishing T-shaped tomb, used during the2nd millennium BC.
