GRAND-BASSAM LIGHTHOUSE
This 17-metre-high round tower features French colonial military architecture and a terraced roof
It was built in one year, from 1913 to 1914, and lit in March 1915. The 17-metre-high round tower has a rectangular base and a terraced roof. The lighthouse is typical of French colonial military architecture. Its white flashing light, which scanned the horizon every 5 seconds, had a range of 18 nautical miles (almost 30 km). It died out in 1951 with the inauguration of the port of Abidjan and the Port-Bouët lighthouse. It is possible to visit the lighthouse, but climbing it is not recommended due to its deteriorating condition.
