JEAN-BAPTISTE MOCKEY CULTURAL CENTER
These 2 concrete buildings containing a cultural center and a community library were the former vegetable and meat market
Formerly a vegetable and meat market, the cultural centre and the municipal library are two concrete buildings built in 1934. They replaced a beautiful wooden hall that had become unhealthy, itself erected in place of the very first market in Grand-Bassam. Opposite, on the lagoon side, there used to be a fish market and a small lagoon port. It is on the main square in the hemicycle open on the lagoon that the governor used to gather the population.
