THE PORT FANTI AND FISH MARKET

An artisanal port where you can discover fishermen returning with their boats, greeted by their wives and children.
The first artisanal port of Côte d'Ivoire, Port Fanti offers a magnificent spectacle when the fishermen, who left for sea the day before, return with their boats loaded with fish the next morning, welcomed by the women and children who wander off in the sea spray. An exuberant and magical daily nautical parade, which can be enjoyed even better from the heights of the Hotel La Terrasse (which bears its name well since it offers a breathtaking view of the port). In the shimmering colours of these eighty or so polychrome pirogues decorated with masts, pennants and colourful inscriptions calling for God's protection, avid shoppers watch out for the cargo, which the men who have come to welcome the pirogues, jostled by the capricious waves, bring full buckets back to shore. The fishermen cling to the ropes of the boats to pull them towards the beach, while others, concentrated, are already retrieving their damaged nets for the next trip out to sea. The best part: depending on the day's catch, you can buy the freshest fish and seafood directly from the harbour market. All you have to do is negotiate to grill them in the local bush or at your hotel. An authentic, colourful and traditional fish market is well worth the trip to Sassandra.
