MOUNT KORHOGO

This granite massif offers a beautiful view of the city and its great mosque.
If you are staying in the Savannah region, a courtesy visit to the venerable city guard is a must. People here call the granite massif of volcanic origin that dominates the city "mountain". Both guardian sentinel and protector, but also a mystical realm that brings mere mortals closer to the geniuses, where one ventures only with respect and humility, its massive silhouette often appears at the bend in the street or in a building, reminding us at every moment that we are in the land of Poro. At the end of the day (the mountain is even more beautiful seen under the colours of the setting sun, which marvellously bring out the ochre dominating the surroundings), the ascent of its black rock plateaus, progressive and fast (the summit is reached in about twenty minutes, half as long for good walkers), will offer you a very beautiful view of the city and its large mosque. The "lake" and the alignments of hills dotted with clear forests and wooded savannas, which are surmounted here and there by a few isolated mounts and other granite massifs looking like floating islands dreamily emerging in the twilight nebulosity. Sometimes, the wind rises and a wave of red dust then envelops a Korhogo drowned in red and green. We note: at the foot of the mountain, the quarry of stones broken in the mass to make gravel for local constructions; the tags and graffiti, and the fact (rather rare) that Ivorians climb to the top of the mountain for the simple pleasure of enjoying the pretty view.
