About 15 km north of Kota Serang, you'll discover the Vihara Avalokitesvara, a temple established by Sunan Gunung Jati, a key figure in the expansion of Islam in Indonesia in the 16th century. The temple was designed for the followers of his Chinese wife, Putri Ong Tien. One of the oldest in the province, it is also known as Klenteng Tri Darma, as it is home to practitioners of three religions: Kong Hu Cu, Taoism and Buddhism. Having survived the eruption of Krakatoa in 1883, it symbolizes cultural diversity and tolerance.
