KARANG BALONG
A remarkable rock forming a kind of vault above the sea, a beautiful geological curiosity to discover in Anyer.
A geological curiosity, Karang Balong ("Rock with a hole") is in fact a very large rock forming a sort of vault above the sea. This fascinating formation is attributed to the consequences of the eruption of Mount Krakatau in 1883. It's certainly strange, but also crowded: beware of the many visitors. The beach is quite beautiful, however. According to local legend, it was the retreat of Suryadilaga, a mythical hermit whose presence imbued the place with an air of mystery and spirituality.
