This traditional market now attracts epicureans in search of Indonesian specialties, as well as bargain hunters with its batiks (admittedly not always authentic) and clothing at rock-bottom prices. On Sundays, the market comes alive with cultural activities, offering a charming glimpse of Yogyakarta's daily life, far from the usual tourist hustle and bustle.

En tant qu'amoureux de la nature et des animaux, je ne conseille pas cet endroit. Vois des oiseaux en cage, entassés et qui ne peuvent pas bouger, c'est un crime. Un oiseau est fait pour voler et être libre, j'espère que ce marché sera un jour interdit. Je ne vois d'ailleurs pas l'intérêt d'admirer des oiseaux serrés comme des sardines qui crient leur désespoir. Quel plaisir peut-on y trouver ?

Endroit à éviter. Des animaux entassés les uns sur les autres dans de minuscules cages. Et si ce n'était que ca... Certains n'ont même pas de quoi boire ni manger ! Et tout ca en plein soleil. J'ai trouvé ce marché tout simplement horrible, et d'une cruauté sans fin. J'ai demandé à plusieurs reprises aux vendeurs de donner au moins de l'eau aux oiseaux et chats qui agonisaient devant leurs yeux... Ils m'ont écouté et leur ont donné. Mais comment savoir si une fois partie ils n'ont pas retiré les gamelles d'eau... De la torture !!! Il n'y a que ce mot... Certes ce marché les font vivre grâce aux autochtones qui viennent acheter des animaux mais comment avoir envie d'acheter un animal à moitié mort ??? Car oui j'ai vu des animaux morts ou à la limite de l'être...
Je déconseille vivement cette visite, n'encouragez pas ce type de commerce.
