Buddhist celebration marking the birth, enlightenment and nirvana of Buddha.
Vesak Day ("Waisak" in Indonesian) is a spiritual Buddhist festival celebrating the birth, enlightenment and death of Gautama Buddha. Every year, on the full moon in May, the temple of Borobudur is lit up with devotion, with thousands of monks reciting mantras and meditating in procession. Ceremonies include offerings, prayers and the symbolic Pindapata ritual. The highlight of the festival is the release of lanterns into the night sky, symbolizing light and illumination. An enchanting spectacle!
