Surabaya's old port, a site for discovering an imposing flotilla of Bugi sailing boats bound for Ujung Pandang and Bandjarmasin.
The port of Tanjung Perak is home to an impressive flotilla of Bugi sailing ships, which can be admired from the quayside just as in Jakarta. However, this port is much less visited, and the dockers are not as indifferent as those at Tanjung Priok. Theoretically, it's forbidden to take photos here; the fact is, you get the impression of being not only a voyeur, but also a wealthy exhibitionist. No reason to feel serene. These Bugi sailboats (which can also be seen in other ports on Java's north coast) sail towards Ujung Pandang and Bandjarmasin.
