Bangkalan, a destination located on the island of Madura and famous for its bullfights held every other Sunday.
Bangkalan is usually only visited for a few hours to watch a bullfight. Those who wish to stay longer, however, will find a number of quite decent guesthouses.
The famous Madura bull races (Kerapan sapi) take place every other Sunday in Bangkalan (they are training races), but the main competition takes place at the end of the dry season (from around the end of August to the end of September), at the Pamekasan stadium. These matches, with their direct knockout rounds, unleash the passions.
