WANGENBURG CASTLE
Ruins of the castle with a keep with regular battlements, its construction dates from the 13th century under the order of the Sires of Wangen
The castle ruins are emblematic of the commune. The keep, with its regular battlements and flag flying from the top, can be seen from afar. Its construction, ordered by the Sires de Wangen, took place in the third quarter of the 13th century. In a very poor state of repair at the beginning of the 16th century, extensive restoration work was carried out, co-financed by the Bishop of Strasbourg and the Wangens. Like many other castles in the region, it was occupied by Louis XIV's garrisons, who partially blew it up to make it "defenseless".
