YADNYA KASADA FESTIVAL

Celebrated by the Tenggerese community in East Java. It has its origins in a local legend, that of Roro Anteng and Joko Seger, who promised to sacrifice their youngest child in order to have children, but ended up honoring their promise by offering their crops and animals to Mount Bromo, a sacred volcano. Every year, on the ^14th day of the month of Kasada according to the Tengger lunar calendar, participants make a pilgrimage to the crater, bringing offerings of fruit, vegetables and animals for prosperity and health.
