Historic palace, on stilts, with a museum displaying inherited sacred artifacts and traditional Sumbawa clothing.
The Palace of the Sultan of Sumbawa, built in 1885, is an architectural gem on stilts. Its all-wood design, without the use of nails, testifies to the genius of Indonesian engineering at the time. Today, this historic palace houses a museum. Visitors can discover "pusakas", inherited sacred artifacts, as well as displays of traditional Sumbawa clothing. The palace could do with another freshening-up to preserve its splendor. A site steeped in history, it offers a glimpse into the brilliant past of the Sultanate of Sumbawa.
