Tomb of Prince Diponegoro, one of the first nationalist heroes, an emblematic place to visit in Ujung Pandang.
Prince Diponegoro, born Bendoro Raden Mas Ontowiryo (1785-1855), valiantly opposed the Dutch colonists in Java from 1825 to 1830. Captured during negotiations, he was exiled to Makassar, spending 27 years in a cell at Fort Rotterdam, where he died aged 70. Considered today as one of the first nationalist heroes, his grave in Diponegoro Street, 2 km from the post office, remains an emblematic site. A visit that offers a reflection on history.
