GUA LATEA - LATEA CAVE
A must-see cave, a historic Pamona burial site, offering a glimpse into their ancestral burial practices.
Nestled in the Parere mountains, the Latea cave, a Pamona burial site (indigenous people of the Poso region) dating back over 30 million years, offers a fascinating insight into their ancestral burial practices, abandoned in the 19th century. The cave, nestled beneath a rocky outcrop, is divided into two sections: the lower part houses 8 coffins and 36 skeletons, while the upper part contains 34 coffins and 47 skeletons. The cave is 2 km from the road to Tentena.
