SUKARNO RETREAT
Residence where Sukarno lived in exile, transformed into a museum exhibiting a collection of books, photographs, furniture, etc.
Following his arrest in 1933, Sukarno and his family were placed under house arrest by the Dutch authorities for nine years. The small house where he lived in exile from 1938 to 1941 stands next to the tourist office. During this period of duress, Sukarno drew up plans for the mosque on the corner of Jl Sudirman and Jl Suprapto. The residence has been transformed into a small museum, showcasing a collection including his books, period furniture, personal effects and photographs.
