SKOGSKYRKOGÅRDEN
At the beginning of the 1914 th century, the large population increase in the region forced the authorities to find a vast place of burial, and it was in this context that in an international competition was launched to find accommodation at the chosen site in the southern suburbs of Stockholm (Enskede). The rules of the tender were clear: the landscape and the obligation to integrate the tombs into the wooded environment. Thus, two young architects, Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz, won the contest, and their project, first named "Tallum", will become a major work of modern architecture and inspiration for many clans in the world. Completed in 1920 but has been combined over the years with new works, Skogskyrkogården is now a place of contemplation and gentle walks between grassy and hilly areas, clearings and sonic pine trees in which the tombstones are naturally integrated.
To be seen: Several chapels, including those of the Resurrection and the wooded Earth, the grove of Meditations, the Seven Sources Trail (the path of mourning), the sculpture of the Angel of Death by Carl Miles, Visitor Center which also serves as a small museum and serves drinks and cakes.
