CITY MUSEUM (STADSMUSEET)
The city museum offers a series of exhibitions that allow you to discover the history of Stockholm from 1527 to the present day!
Located in Slussen, opposite Gamla Stan, the Stockholm City Museum is housed in the old town hall, built in 1685. The museum is dedicated to preserving and documenting the history of the Swedish capital. The permanent exhibition traces the history of Stockholm from the reign of Gustav Vasa to the present day. It is open to all free of charge. This historical retrospective, which is particularly entertaining and immersive, allows visitors not only to discover the city's dynamic past, but also to imagine its future, thanks to an exhibition presenting urban projects currently under construction or being developed. You can see how Stockholm has grown from a small Nordic city to a world capital. The second floor is devoted to temporary exhibitions, and the top floor features a reconstruction of an emblematic family home from the early 20thcentury : the Pihlqvist family home. The museum also offers guided tours, numerous city walks and other outdoor activities to broaden visitors' learning and immersion experience. There's also a café, store and documentation room on site. The café serves sandwiches, delicacies, tea and coffee, or more substantial dishes, all until 4.30pm. It's the place to be if you want to get a better grasp of the current issues facing Stockholm!
