CITY MUSEUM (STADSMUSEET)
The city museum offers a series of exhibitions that allow you to discover the history of Stockholm from 1527 to the present day!
The Stockholm City Museum is located in the old city hall, built in 1685, in Slussen, opposite Gamla Stan. This museum is dedicated to the preservation and documentation of the history of the Swedish capital. The permanent exhibition traces the history of Stockholm from the reign of Gustav Vasa to the present day. It is open to everyone and admission is free. This historical retrospective, particularly entertaining and immersive, allows us not only to discover the dynamic past of this city, but also to imagine its future (note that the part devoted to future urban projects is currently being renovated). It is easy to understand how Stockholm, a small Nordic city at the beginning of its history, has become a world capital. The second floor is dedicated to temporary exhibitions, and the top floor presents a reconstruction of an emblematic family home from the beginning of the 20th century: the Pihlqvist family house. The museum also offers guided tours, numerous city walks, and other outdoor activities that broaden visitors' learning and immersion. There is also a café, store and resource room on site. The café offers sandwiches, treats, tea and coffee, or more substantial dishes, all until 4:30pm. A must-see address to better understand the current issues that animate the city of Stockholm!
