PHOTO MUSEUM (FOTOGRAFISKA MUSEET)
Photography is a major artistic medium in Scandinavia, because of the Nordic light that makes photographers dream.
Just a few dozen meters from the Slussen metro station, its red-brick facade remains intact. Fotografiska is one of the world's leading venues for contemporary photography. Opened in 2010, this museum is a delight for photography enthusiasts. In the heart of an early 20th-century building, 5,500m2 of modern space host four major exhibitions and around twenty smaller ones each year. There are no permanent exhibitions, but Swedish and international artists display their work on all three floors. The scenography is pleasant and fluid. Please note that this is not a museum about photography techniques, but about photography itself: here, photographs are shown, enhanced by lighting and atmospheres adapted to each artist. The Fotografiska also offers photo workshops, for those wishing to discover, perfect or simply have a little fun. The more you explore the exhibitions, the closer you get to the restaurant. This renowned gastronomic establishment has been awarded the Michelin Green Star every year since 2020, which rewards restaurants with a sustainable approach. At the bar, you can overhear impassioned conversations about photography or discuss previous exhibitions. On your way out, don't miss a visit to the museum store, which offers a selection of 300 poster-sized photographs, as well as a number of fine books.
