PHOTO MUSEUM (FOTOGRAFISKA MUSEET)
Photography is a major artistic medium in Scandinavia, because of the Nordic light that makes photographers dream.
A few dozen meters from the Slussen subway station, its red brick façade is intact. Fotografiska is one of the largest places dedicated to contemporary photography. Opened in 2010, this museum is a delight for photography enthusiasts. In the heart of a building from the beginning of the 20th century, there are 5,500m2 of modern space that hosts four major exhibitions and about twenty smaller ones each year. No permanent exhibition, but Swedish and international artists who fill the three floors with their works. The scenography is pleasant and fluid. Be careful, this is not a museum about photography techniques, but about photography itself: here are shown pictures, highlighted by lighting and atmospheres adapted to each artist. The Fotografiska also offers photo workshops, for those who want to discover, improve or simply have fun. The more you go through the exhibitions, the closer you get to the restaurant. The restaurant is run by chef Paul Svensson, who won the Gold Dragon Award for his cuisine based entirely on organic plants. At the bar, you can overhear passionate conversations about photography or debate about previous exhibitions. On the way out is the museum store, which offers a selection of 300 poster photos, as well as Jesper Waldersten's Master Box with three prints from his exhibition "All over".
