Leaving Gällivare, take road 45, called Inlandsvägen ("inland road"), towards Porjus and Jokkmokk. A good, straight, paved road leads to Porjus, which is located on the bank of the Luleälv River and is easily identifiable by its hydroelectric power station.
The 44 km from Porjus to Jokkmokk is a medium-sized road that first runs along the Luleälv River, which is wide like a lake at times. Then it becomes winding and rises through a landscape of dark hills covered with coniferous forests
