MASTHUGG CHURCH (MASTHUGGSKYRKAN)

This church, with its rare bell tower featuring both a cross and a rooster, dominates the city and offers superb views over Gothenburg and its estuary. Inaugurated in 1914, it is an excellent example of the national Romantic architectural movement. On the outside, it's rather austere, with red brick and stone, tiled roofs and a massive 60 m high bell tower. The interior, however, is full of surprises: the imposing wooden framework is an immediate eye-catcher.
