The fortifications are undoubtedly the most striking feature of this town, so well preserved are they. The surrounding wall that encircles the old town was built between the 13thand 14thcenturies . Initially crude, it was raised in the late 1300s and reinforced with high, solid towers to protect the town from Danish attempts to invade. Today, the walls still stand all around the town. You can walk along the ramparts and climb the two towers overlooking the sea at the north-western end.
