Would be the best hotel in Dublin except that for most of the day there is no lobby to speak of. You can work in your room or in the little business center. Not convenient for laptop travelers. Otherwise splendid.

Recently I stayed at the Shelbourne Hotel to celebrate an anniversary but was left with a very sour taste. It is a hotel I have always one day, dreamt of having the privilege to stay in. Initially everything was perfect from the hotel aesthetics and the lush and plush feel of elegance throughout the hotel. Breakfast was wonderful with extraordinary choice from being able to choose from a buffet and a breakfast menu which had vast choice, all of which was included in the room rate. I truly was in awe of this hotel and was anticipating planning another stay, but unfortunately my concept changed, and my experience was tarnished at the check-out experience particularly.

After check-in, I noticed an extra charge on my card, I queried this with reception and I was advised it was a deposit, in which I accepted, expecting this to go back into my account immediately after checkout.

When I was checking out, the agent asked me for the payment of my room, in which I advised I already paid for it, and I had to show him my online banking. He was confused as on the hotels system it showed this as pre-authorisation. I felt very embarrassed as the reception area was extremely busy. I was even asked to show my card! It was then it was realised that I paid with a debit card and not a credit card. It seems the hotel may have confused my card assuming it was a credit card and not a debit card. I don’t have a credit card. 2 days following my check out I noticed a payment debited from my card to the value of the room rate, while there was still a pending transaction waiting to go back to my account, which I was advised by the hotel can take up to 2 weeks! So essentially what happened was a pre-authorisation hold was placed on my debit card for the room rate plus an extra €50.00, where I was advised that the deposit was only €50.00.

I accept that some hotels may do this, however, not to be told at check in this was happening and properly being explained for a 5-star hotel is a very unpleasant experience and what happened at check-out was very embarrassing as I mentioned above.

Unfortunately, I won’t be staying here again, because of the check in and check out experience. Not everyone has a credit card and to assume a card is a credit card without checking is not a pleasant experience. My account was left with low balance for some 6 days, with no access to available funds in my account for this period with some payments not being able to be processed due to the hold that I was waiting for to be returned. I had not budgeted for extra pending charges.

Located off of Dublin's scenic Stephens green, The Sherbourne is easily accessible by foot, bus or luas... or horse drawn cart if you are so inclined.
My partner and I stopped in for afternoon tea for my birthday, from cocktails in the bar to the very last crumb, it was an exceptional experience.
From the moment you step through the door you're enveloped in luxury, highlighted by the marble floors and truly magnificent floral displays.
The tea room is warm and welcoming, but equally cozy.
The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and very well versed on what they are presenting.
The afternoon tea was beautifully presented, with each round described and order recommended.
Each sandwich was made of a few uncomplicated ingredients and yet delivered the satisfactory punch one might want in evert bite.
This is definitely a treat I would recommend trying at least once.

My experience at the Shelburne Hotel left me felling wanting a little more. Everything about the hotel is really grand and sophisticated right from the interiors to the amenities and the attention to detail is absolutely outstanding. The breakfast at the saddle room was absolutely delightful . what’s interesting about it? Is there is a separate menu that features various breakfast items that you can order which is excluding the buffet that’s been put out for you so I ordered the eggs Benedict and the farm egg omelette which was absolutely delicious ,all in all I had a good experience, the staff is absolutely courteous.

Not a 5 star experience by any stretch of the imagination. I genuinely don’t think this hotel should have 5 stars after our visit, we certainly didn’t experience a 5 star stay and I can’t help but feel that they are clinging on to their rating by trading on their past history, whoever is in charge is letting so many standards slip that a downgrade feels inevitable. Guests are made to pay a deposit upon checking in for extras that they may or may not using during their stay, I have certainly never had this before in a 5 star hotel. Small, badly laid out rooms with poor toiletries in them. Terrible service from bar staff who told me they had done last orders at 10.45 pm! The bar is listed on the website and outside of its door as open until 12.30 am. The one drink I had earlier in the day would have tasted better out of a can. I really felt like I wasn’t welcome in the bar. Breakfast is a buffet style with many items missing or running out with them not being replaced during our time in the breakfast area. On both mornings we were forgotten about by wait staff and had to ask again for the most basic of things that should be brought straight to your table. I’ve had better in pretty much every hotel whether it’s 5 star or not that I’ve stayed in however most aren’t buffets that you have to serve to yourself. The piece de resistance was the curdling milk and cream on a hot radiator where we had to make ourselves a cup of tea in a paper cup because they couldn’t seat us for breakfast when we went down in the morning. Over hyped and over priced for what they are offering their guests. Very very disappointing and I will be telling everyone about our stay. We will never be back. I would love an explanation from the hotel as to how these happened but all I will get is a generic response that they will try harder. I’m sorry but that is not any comfort to us after paying highly for the poor service and experience we had. WE WILL NEVER BE BACK!

We stayed at the signature suite for 4 nights, the view was fantastic! Gym was compact but they did have everything. My youngest enjoyed the pool, though there was no room to hang out per se. Amanda at the horseshoe bar was very acknowledgeable. We booked this a year ago for Christmas time but had to postpone for personal reasons, which was a shame because I heard Christmas at the Shelbourne would have been magical. Nonetheless it was very good of them to let us change to a later date. Everyone has been very friendly and helpful. The only thing is, next time when we stay at the same suite I would ask for a higher floor (we are on the 4th floor) because the people upstairs were stomping around till late night. We understand it comes with the territory when one stays at a historical hotel. Overall, it was a great experience, and we hope to repeat during Christmas time!

The ambience is lovely but the contents of the afternoon are terribly poor. Too much sugar, nothing you won’t find at Tesco, and even then Tesco quality must be better. The sandwiches are extremely small and unoriginal. Almost nothing was delicious, the tea is dusty and the staff too busy to show any warmth.

Beautiful, high end hotel central location in the city. Great service and good food. One and only complaint was the mattress in the room was a bit firmer than I would of liked, but that's just an opinion. The rooms were beautiful, clean and quiet.

Service was spotty, but when Ana was my server at breakfast(2 of 3 days) the dining service was excellent and I enjoyed seeing how she kept an eye on the entire room. The bellmen were also excellent. I stayed in a high end guest room and a suite. I was impressed with the water pressure and immediate availability of hot water. The floors in the guest rooms are quite rickety but I'm sure this is not an easy fix for an 1820s era building. I really appreciated all of the marble in the bathrooms. I felt a bit brushed off by the front desk and management when interacting with them, but I understand they are extremely busy so I don't know that there is an easy fix for this. I don't envy their job. I would still be happy to return. It does feel like a lovely place to be.

The Shelbourne has hosted us twice on this trip to Ireland with some of the most gracious hospitality we've had the pleasure to experience. Conveniently located in the absolute heart of Dublin on St Stephen'sGreen, the Shelbourne hotel is the top of luxury accommodation and service.

My wife's friend booked an afternoon tea for my wife's 40th birthday. It was booked a month ago for seven people for next Saturday 23rd March. Yesterday the hotel rang to cancel due to being double booked. What a joke! You expect me to believe you didn't know this a month ago? One would suspect you're kicking them out to facilitate your friends. My wife has had afternoon tea in many places and picked your hotel because it was her favourite, she could've easily chosen somewhere else a month ago, now everywhere else is booked up for next Saturday. You don't even deserve one star. Anyone else thinking of booking anything in this hotel just know that this is how they operate. You can have it booked well in advance, but a booking here means nothing, they'll cancel you to accommodate their own mates at short notice. Disgraceful way to run a so called 5 star hotel. Don't book here unless you want to be let down.
