Practical information : Move & Laze around Dublin
Budget & Tips
Dublin has many green spaces. On the north bank of the Liffey, Phoenix Park is the largest park in the city and indeed in all of Europe. Other places to walk are : St. Stephen's Green, Iveagh Gardens, Merrion Square where the statue of Oscar Wilde is located, the Garden of Remembrance and the War Memorial Garden, the National Botanic Gardens..
What's very local
In addition to numerous walks in the capital's parks, it is possible to do as the locals do and regularly get away from the city. In a few stations of DART (the local RER), you can find yourself at the seaside enjoying sumptuous hiking trails.
You can also enjoy a game of rugby, hurling or Gaelic soccer. At the stadium, if you can, with a local and generally overheated atmosphere! And if you want the economic version, you go to the pub to watch the game..
Your documents please
It is important to find out beforehand, as many activities around Dublin, especially on the coast or at sea, require a minimum age of 12 to 16 years.
To be booked
You'll need to book in high season for outdoor activities outside the city. And if you want to see rugby at the Aviva Stadium, hurling or Gaelic soccer at Croke Park, book your tickets well in advance!
Main events
The 6 Nations Tournament, one of the biggest competitions in the world of rugby, the hurling and Gaelic soccer finals in the mythical Croke Park stadium in September or the Dublin Horse Show, a unique equestrian event that has been attracting more than 100,000 visitors every summer since 1868, are the competitions not to be missed during an Irish getaway.
