MANSION HOUSE
Official residence of the Mayor of Dublin, a site steeped in history and host to temporary exhibitions and events.
Built in 1710 by Joshua Dawson, this building became in 1715 the official residence of the Lord Mayor of Dublin and has remained so ever since. It was in this house that the 1919 Declaration of Independence was proclaimed, as well as the 1916 Declaration of the Republic of Ireland by the insurgents. Today, the Mansion House is used for receptions and temporary exhibitions. For the record, Dublin beat London (by 15 years) in giving its mayor an official house in 1715.
