JAMESON DISTILLERY
The old distillery buildings have been restored to allow visitors to discover the world of Jameson. Sláinte!
" Sine Metu ", which means "fearless" in Gaelic, is the Jameson family motto, which appears on every Jameson bottle! Admittedly, it took guts to launch a new distillery in Ireland in 1780, when Irish whiskeys were already well established and, let's not forget, John Jameson was of Scottish origin... But almost 200 years after the death of its creator, Jameson remains the world's number one Irish whiskey. The distillery has now moved to Cork, but the old buildings have been restored to allow visitors to discover the world of Jameson and learn more about the process of making this famous beverage. The guided tour includes an audiovisual presentation of Jameson's history and origins, followed by a tour of the distillery's lair, explaining the " from grain to glass " process and engaging the senses. You'll learn all about whiskey fermentation, (triple) distillation and maturation techniques. Finally, the long-awaited moment of tasting! Three whiskeys of different origins (usually an American, a Scotch and inevitably... an Irish Jameson) are offered for blind tasting. This tasting should make perfect sense after an instructive tour, and the differences - particularly between single, double and triple distillation - will become clear to you. Finally, your entry ticket entitles you to a free cocktail at the magnificent bar on the first floor.
