MERRION SQUARE PARK
A pretty park dotted with beautiful collections of sculptures and lampposts, a great place for a stroll or a picnic
The garden of Merrion Square is a real haven of peace. This pretty park, built in 1762, has retained a certain Georgian charm. There is a large collection of sculptures in Merrion Square (including Oscar Wilde's sculpture in Merrion Square North, opposite his childhood home), as well as an amazing collection of lamp posts. On some of the houses surrounding the park, you can see plaques recalling the names of their illustrious occupants. When the weather is fine, many people come to walk, picnic and rest on the grass.
