WAR MEMORIAL GARDENS
Gardens dedicated to the memory of Irish soldiers who died in the Great War, one of Europe's most important memorials
These magnificent gardens were dedicated to the memory of the 49,400 Irish soldiers who died in the First World War between 1914 and 1918. It is surely one of the most important memorials in Europe. The names of the soldiers are inscribed in the superb illustrated manuscripts of Harry Clarke in the granite bookrooms of the site. The various elements of the memorial were designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Of course, the beautiful green spaces of Islandbridge are also an invitation to stroll around with the family.
