RATHFARNHAM CASTLE
Historic castle with magnificentapartments and some fine works of art in Rathfarnam.
The date of foundation of Rathfarnham Castle is uncertain, but it is likely to be in the late 16th century (around 1583). It was part of a chain of castles built to protect the city of Dublin from attacks by Irish clans. The castle still contains magnificent 18th century apartments designed by Sir William Chambers and James Stuart, known as the Athenian, and some fine works of art. It was listed in the mid-1980s and is an interesting family visit.
