DUNBRODY FAMINE SHIP
Remarkable boat moored on the quayside of the River Barrow, to discover the life of Irish emigrants during the Great Famine
A replica of the famous Dunbrody, a 53-metre long ship built by Thomas Hamilton Oliver in 1845, which enabled many Irish victims of the Great Famine to reach America. Moored on the quay of the Barrow River, it represents the imposing emblem of the city of New Ross. Inside, an interactive exhibition, animated by actors in period costumes, details the life of the Irish emigrants on the ship, and a database on 19th century Irish immigration is accessible. A fascinating visit.
