ROTHE HOUSE & GARDEN
This beautiful Tudor-style house houses a museum of local objects and costumes from different periods of Kilkenny's history.
Rothe House is a fine example of a Tudor-style house built by a wealthy local merchant, John Rothe, in 1594. It now houses a museum of local artefacts and costumes from different periods in history. The most interesting room is the Phelan Room, on the top floor of the building, which has a beautiful wooden roof. The rare sculpture of the pagan fertility goddess Sheela-Na-Gig is not to be missed on the way out. Finally, this beautiful house is organised around a courtyard and a large vegetable garden.
