Watchtower at the tip of Waterford's fortifications, a site steeped in history and home to the town's museum.
This watchtower, located at the tip of the city's fortifications, was built in the 12th century. The tower was used as a mint, an arsenal and a prison. The well-preserved tower houses the city's museum. Many documents on the exceptional life of Thomas Francis Meagher. He was sentenced to hard labour in Tasmania for his part in the 1848 revolt. He returned to Ireland and later emigrated to the United States, where he became a general in the Northern army during the Civil War and ended his life as Governor of Montana.
