SWISS COTTAGE
Charming cottage overlooking the River Suir, a former manor house, hunting lodge and fishing residence of Lord Butler
A small but charming thatched cottage overlooking the River Suir in its green setting. Designed by the influential British architect, John Nash, for Richard Butler (Earl of Cahir), it was built between 1812 and 1814 with particular attention to decoration, inspired by his many travels in Europe; noteworthy is the wallpaper (by hand) designed by Paul Dufour. This well-preserved two-storey thatched cottage served as Lord Butler's country house, hunting lodge and fishing residence.
