The longest cave in Ireland and one of the most impressive in Europe, with superb stalactites, stalagmites...

Mitchelstown is a limestone cave near Burncourt, which became the first cave in Ireland to be opened to the public in 1972. Discovered in 1833, it is one of the most impressive in Europe. Impressive caverns, magnificent stalactites, stalagmites and calcite flows in this 3 kilometer long cave, the longest in Ireland, nestled against the Galtee Mountains. Only some of the underground galleries can be visited on request, by telephone or via the website. For those who like caving, beware!
