FOTA HOUSE & GARDENS
Elegant Regency-style house, former home of the Smith-Barry family, with magnificent gardens and arboretum.
This elegant Regency-style house, with its superb interior, was the former home of the Smith-Barry family (Earls of Barrymore since 1627), descendants of Philip de Barry. The last member of this family to live at Fota House was Dorothy Elizabeth Bell (1894-1975), daughter of Arthur Smith-Barry (1843-1925). Around Fota House are beautiful gardens and an arboretum of exotic trees and southern hemisphere shrubs. A nice idea for a walk after the guided tour of the house.
