ST COLMAN'S CATHEDRAL
Neo-Gothic cathedral overlooking the town of Cobh, with an imposing spire housing a carillon of 47 bells.
Dominating the city, the neo-Gothic style Cathedral of Saint Colman was built between 1868 and 1915. At that time, the city was booming thanks to the activity of the port and wanted an important religious building to be able to welcome the faithful, in transit towards the United States. The imposing spire houses a carillon composed of 47 bells, making it the largest in the country. Its interior, in the shape of a Latin cross, is composed of a single nave with seven bays, chapels, a choir and an apse. The stained glass windows are also of great interest.
