The O'Brien Tower was built in 1835 by Cornelius O'Brien, a descendant of Brian Boru, the Great King of Ireland, and O'Brien of Bunratty Castle, Thormond Kings, to serve as an observatory to the hundreds of travellers who, at the time, came to look at the cliffs. It is possible to get there to use the telescope.
