LYNCH'S CASTLE
Acastle famous for its bas-reliefs of coats of arms, this historic site is now the headquarters of Allied Arish Bank.
This castle, located in the middle of the city, became the headquarters of Allied Arish Bank. Dating from the 14th century (although most of its present structure was built in the 16th century), it is most famous for its bas-reliefs of arms and for its history. It is said that in the 15th century the mayor of the town, James Lynch, had to sentence his own son to death and hang him for killing a young Spaniard who had been invited by the inflexible father, who was then involved with a Spanish merchant. Some suggest that the term "lynch" comes from there.
