Majestic Catholic cathedral near Salmon Weir Bridge, one of Europe's newest stone cathedrals.

Galway Catholic Cathedral is also (simply!) called the Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas. Built between 1958 and 1965 near Salmon Weir Bridge, it is one of the newest stone cathedrals in Europe. Dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption and St Nicholas, this imposing cathedral is striking in its size, the height of its nave and its remarkable dome rising to over 44 metres. The cathedral in Galway is huge and majestic, a testament to the importance of Catholicism in the lives of the Irish.

Cathédrale surprenante de l'extérieur par son côté un peu austère. A l'intérieur les nombreux vitraux et le plafond de bois change totalement l'atmosphère.

La cathédrale est imposante et récente. En entrant on est surpris par son plafond de bois, ses beaux vitraux, et ses arcades. Nous y sommes rentrés pour nous protéger de la pluie mais cela a été finalement une jolie découverte :)

Un must à Galway, les nombreux vitraux colorés et l'imposant orgue confèrent à l'église quelque chose de magnifique. Au milieu un dôme en bleu chatoyant. Un bâtiment très admirable aussi de l'extérieur.
