BIRR CASTLE
Castle with spectacular Gothic drawing room, Victorian dining room, beautiful gardens and man-made lake.
You can easily spend half a day in the beautiful castle grounds of Birr. The castle, still inhabited by the Count and Countess of Rosse, is only open on guided tours. The imposing building, built around 1620, is particularly well preserved and houses a spectacular gothic hall and a Victorian dining room. The beautiful gardens cover about 50 hectares and include an artificial lake and countless exotic flowers. There is also a Science Museum in the former stables. Finally, the gardens house a huge telescope.
