CROAGH PATRICK
A sacred mountain with a distinctive conical shape and a chapel where exhausted pilgrims are rewarded with a mass.
From the small town of Murrisk, a well-marked rocky path rises gently to get lost on a first summit linked to Croagh Patrick (743 meters) by a steep and merciless ridge. Then follows the ascent of the side of the sacred mountain (Saint Patrick, the patron saint of the Irish, is supposed to have fasted there during 40 days in 441), with its characteristic conical shape. At the top, there is a chapel where exhausted pilgrims are rewarded with a mass (pilgrimage every last Sunday of July, called "Garland Sunday"). Count 4 to 5 hours.
