DOE CASTLE
Castle, with keep and crenellated tower, set in a garden-like setting on the Sheep Haven estuary, near Creeslough.
Come and sit on this low wall in a sort of garden on the Sheep Haven estuary near Creeslough, where a small islet swims. Behind it stands the keep and crenellated tower of Doe Castle, built in the 16th century (for a time the stronghold of the Scottish MacSweeney family, employed by the O'Donnell family). The keep looks more like a huge chess tower than a defensive structure and the battlements of the wall are out of proportion to its height. It is a castle as children imagine it.
