ABBEY OF KELLS
Kells Abbey, whose ruins include a ten-century-old round tower and remarkable Celtic crosses, including the South Cross
There are few traces of the abbey today, except for a ten-century-old round tower, St. Colmcille's House (according to experts, this is a tenth-century scriptorium, i.e. a place where the monks did their illumination work), and several Celtic crosses including the South Cross (medium-sized but beautifully carved, especially the crucifixion on the pillar above which, in the circle, sits the Resurrection with a lamb) and the Market Cross (which now stands at the entrance to the Heritage Centre).
