BLACK CASTLE
Historic site to visit in Wicklow, ruins of an Anglo-Norman fortress facing the sea and offering superb views.
Built by Maurice Fitzgerald between 1160 and 1180, south of the port of Wicklow, nothing remains of this Anglo-Norman fortress, or almost. But that is obviously the charm of this place! Two eroded fragments of walls, one with a window, can still be found. They are anchored there, on a small rocky outcrop facing the sea, and offer a beautiful view. The remains of the construction seem to be a natural emanation of the material and put the imagination to work. A nice and invigorating escapade in perspective.
