RUSSBOROUGH HOUSE
RemarkablePalladian-style castle with impressive collection of paintings in Wicklow
A Palladian castle built in the 18th century for the Earl of Milltown, Joseph Leeson, by the German architect Richard Cassels (also responsible for the architecture of Powerscourt Castle). The huge façade (210 metres long) has two curved colonnades and heraldic lions. The austere architecture of the exterior contrasts with the exuberance of the interiors, richly decorated in stucco and mahogany woodwork. Impressive and invaluable collection of paintings (Flemish, Spanish, Italian, English and French).
